Default New to game(again)HELP!

Ok I am new to the game. Ive played to lvl 15 than took 2 years off. I have forgotten everything.. i seem to get murdered in pve w/ henchman and rack up the -% morale. I really like how the game is done but not knowing what is going on is frustrating me. I bought eyes of the north for more content and i cant seem to figure things out except just going to each new mission. Side quests i just die so i dont spend much time on them.

I am a E/N. What skills are good for this combo? Where do i go to lvl up?( Not fast but at a enjoyable rate) What gear should i be looking for and how do I find it?

If someone could point me in general direction, via links, info here, whatever, I would greatly apperciate the help I could get. Thanks a ton in advance.

I dont even know where to start, other than to say, welcome back.

E/N is fine. Focus on fire or earth ele skills, for the most part, and get to level 20. Likely you'll wish to switch to E/Mo for group play or play with heroes and henchmen, E/A to access some solo farming capabilities inherent in the class.

My ele has been a farmer as of late (various E/A builds), when I play her, but she has enjoyed fire and earth ele builds in PvE. Rather than suggest a specific build to you, I'd direct you to read the Elementalist forum here a bit and find things that interest/suit you, maybe asking for some direct advice there. You're going to quickly find that you'll wan to get Factions and Nightfall also for further skill flexibility, but you'll be fine for now. Read about skills available and where they can be found from the links provided by Rahja (hiya Sojar).

Factions has probably the fastest leveling areas there are, due to the quests around Kaineng City. Outside of that, gather up yourself some Heroes from Eye of the North and work through that. Heroes will make your life easier and you can likely level there faster than where you are in Prophecies - though you'll need to progress further to get access to where certain skills you'll want reside.

Gear.. just get basic max armor for 7.5k or so, and a collector staff, or a cheap staff with a couple mods, in the element you are focusing on. You can buy something cheap in Lion's Arch, but dont go shopping uninformed.

If I was able to get in game, I'd simply grab my ele and help you out a bit. Itd be easier in game, but alas, my PC is RIP so I cannot. The advice to join a guild is probably the best of everything said.

Have fun and good luck!

It might be helpful to start a new character, learn the basics again as you go, before jumping right into Eye Of The North, which is meant to be a little more taxing

As somebody said above also...the wiki sites are your best friend. They will tell you all you need to know about the quests or missions you're having trouble with (and give helpful tips and advice). And there's also an area where you can take a look at builds (skill set ups) that you might find helpful. You might pick up a few tips, even if you're not quite able to get all the skills that you may need for the builds.

Good luck, and have fun

A couple of basic suggestions for your build set up....
1) Focus on one element at a time..They all have something going for them but stick to one at a time.
2) Remember to put points into energy storage : )

Beyond that I suggest just playing around with skills til you find combinations that you enjoy and that work well for you. Wiki builds can be nice but make sure you arent giving up what you want to run someone elses build.

I started out as an ele and had no idea what the heck to do, so here's what helped me.

Don't go to gwen yet. Start a new char (it won't take long to get where you were before) Start in pre and do every mission and quest you can. When you get the 'finding a second profession' quest, try ALL the other professions (ie, don't accept any as your permanent second profession. This will unlock more skills for you (for later on) and give you an idea what all the other professions do. After you've done that, you can pick one (I went with e/mo which is probably the most popular) once all the quests and everything are done in pre you should be a pretty decent level, go ahead and do the last quest that takes you to post searing (it asks you if you're sure you want to go ahead)

Do the same. Take all the quests, they'll pretty much lead you through the game so that when you reach the missions you'll be at the appropriate level for them. Find a noob friendly guild, a lot are looking for members in those early areas. By the time you reach gwen you'll be level 20, have a solid skill set, max armor and weapons, and not be getting slapped around. And have fun!

For any elementalist I tend to go with fire...but if it's survival then listen to Aera. (I'm just the type to like having around loads of high damage AoE spells which I can turn mobs into ashes with)

and another thing *behold the stick of maybe maybe not, changed back into the stick of lies!!!!*
